Are you feeling a little stuck with setting goals or intentions?  Here are a five tips to help you move through those blocks…

1. Are you putting off setting goals? Maybe you’re not feeling your best, or you need more information, or you’re just feeling frustrated or even unmotivated. Maybe you’re a little (or a lot) scared of leaving your comfort zone.
Give yourself grace! Have a think about why it is that you’re delaying or procrastinating. What is it that you need to address so that you CAN set yourself goals?

2. Deeply understand your ‘why’ – why do you want the outcome? Knowing why you want a particular outcome will definitely help when the going gets tough and if you’ve set a worthy goal – the going will get tough at some point. You could use the ‘5 Whys’ method to get to the bottom of your motivation – Why do I want this? Why do I want (answer to first question)? Why do I want (answer to second question)?… and so on until you deeply understand your reasons.

3. Take your time – not a particularly popular thing to do in today’s world of rush, rush, rush. Rushing sucks your energy, your focus and often your motivation. A worthy goal takes time. There are things that you need to learn and do to get that worthy outcome. Slowing down lowers your stress levels, increases accuracy, allows you to have fun and be creative, allowing you to focus on the bigger picture. Give yourself a break. After all, I’m sure you’ve heard that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Nor are worthy goals.

4. Self-Belief. Giving up at the first sign of difficulty says that you didn’t really want to attain whatever your goal was. Was it really YOUR goal or someone else’s that you’d taken on as yours? Worthy outcomes take time and as I said above – at some point, the going will get tough. Believe in yourself. Believe that you will find an alternative, an answer – you will get through the tough bits.

5. Self-Care. Having boundaries and managing your time is self-care. Knowing your personal values (what really matters to you) and prioritising in accordance with those values and putting boundaries around what’s important, will make your life so much more aligned. The feelings of satisfaction, peace, and harmony – knowing that you’re on the right track – is something that can’t be emphasised enough for happiness.

One last thing… If your goals aren’t inspiring you, you’ve missed the whole point of goals!
